Mechanical Fitter – Temp to Perm

Kani Engineering is seeking a reliable and skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team on a temporary contract with the possibility of permanent employment.
The successful candidate will be involved in machine assembly, jig and fixture builds, pneumatic installations, maintenance work, and equipment installations at customer sites. This role requires someone who can work independently from CAD drawings, supervise assistants, and maintain high safety and quality standards in both workshop and site environments.
Responsibilities
- Assemble machines, jigs, fixtures, and industrial equipment from drawings
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings from CAD/digital screens
- Install bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, and mechanical components
- Install and troubleshoot pneumatic systems
- Perform precision fitting, alignment, and adjustments
- Assist with machine installations and commissioning on client sites
- Carry out maintenance and repair work on equipment
- Supervise assistants or general workers when required
- Follow safety procedures and contribute to safety file compliance
Must Have
- Mid-level mechanical fitting experience (approx. 3–7 years)
- Strong practical fitting experience in workshop and site work
- Ability to read and work independently from CAD drawings
- Must live in or near Cosmo City / Roodepoort area
- Must have own basic toolbox
- Good understanding of workshop safety and site procedures
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work without supervision
- Computer literacy
Nice to have
- Trade-tested fitter qualification
- Own transport
- Experience with pneumatic systems
- Experience in industrial machine builds or installations
- Basic welding or tacking ability
- Experience supervising assistants or teams
- Familiarity with safety files and site compliance processes
